As far as standards go, the general standard of The Kapil Sharma Show is as sexist as it gets. But as it turns out, guests on a Kapil Sharma show can pull off the same move too. Last week, Aam Aadmi Party’s Kumar Vishwas (who’s also a poet, it seems), commented about Indian elections on the episode.
He thought it’d be okay to spice it up with an analogy: “Jis samay chunav hota hai, to apne colony mein politician logon ko badi dikkat hoti hai…matlab jis ladki se aapka affair chalao uske pati ko bhi jijaji kehna padta hai, jijaji vote de dena samaan to aap le hi gaye.” (During the election period, politicians face a lot of troubles in our colony. I mean, you might even have to call your girlfriend’s husband “brother-in-law”, as in, “Brother-in-law, at least give us the votes, you’ve already taken away the object anyway.”)
He’s made sexist comments before; remember when he said that he’d “naturally” call dark-skinned nurses ‘sisters’? Except this time, one of the viewers just wasn’t going to take it. A homemaker and social worker who lives in Jeewan Park, lodged a police complaint against him at Dabri Police Station, and demanded to know if her daughter, who was watching the show too, would become an “object” after marriage.
With other casually sexist nonsense this week, we really hope politicians and other public figures switch on their assholery filter and perhaps keep quiet?
