MTV India recently posted a video of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif being interviewed by VJ Zerxes Wadia for their upcoming movie Jagga Jasoos, and it’s accompanied by the caption “Is it just us or can you feel the tension between Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor too?”
Well no, it’s not just them, we can sense the tension too. You can see the clear irritation in Katrina Kaif’s face, body language and retorts as Ranbir Kapoor continuously and cluelessly interrupts and mansplains when Wadia asks Kaif questions, even going so far as to interrupt Kaif after she admonished him for talking over her, in order to declare that he just wants to better Kaif in every way possible, as an actor, a star and as a human being.
Perhaps it’s situations like these that this new tool, Are Men Talking Too Much, was designed for. Created by developer Cathy Deng, the tool basically has two buttons: “a dude” and “not a dude”. You click on each button depending on whether a dude or not-a-dude is talking at a meeting or event, and the tool records how much time each is speaking, and calculates what percentage of the conversation is being dominated by men and non-men. If it says that the percentage is well above 50 percent, it’s solid numerical proof that there’s a problem.
It’s a simple but fun tool, and one that’s definitely worth trying out the next time you see a panel discussion featuring four dudes and a lone woman (ooh, such diversity!). Or perhaps in your next team meeting at the office?
