Baljinder Kaur is a UK-based illustrator. One of her many series’, The Elderly, depicts elderly people in various poses. She says she has an intangible fascination with observing and recording the elderly, and it is quite interesting to see her depictions of them. Most of the images look like elderly Sikh women, and they could be anywhere, but most likely the UK, since that’s where Kaur is based.
Her other work is really cool too, from series’ like The Kingdom of Dreams, to The Waiting, to Fantastical Creatures to The Guru. It’s all quite dreamy to look at, and feels quite profound in its thought-provoking simplicity and sweetness. Kaur told the Huffington Post that her work seems almost spiritual because ideally, as a Sikh, there’s no distinction between what is or isn’t spiritual. She says, “I don’t intentionally convey particular messages, rather, they’re outcomes of conversations with myself, through and with the life around me.”
It also reminds us of this wonderful photography and memory project called The Kaur Project, that attempts to tell the stories of Kaur women of all ages from all over the world by collecting and publishing their photographs, accompanied by a retelling of their life in their own words.
