Ghanchakkar has pretty much only one named female character – the genuinely delightful Neetu played by Vidya Balan. There has already been much said about her Funjabi clothes, her wackiness etc. But we would like to use this soapbox to say that even though this movie fails the Bechdel Test miserably, we finally have a female protagonist with an explicit love for women’s magazines, like Robbie Myers. Neetu has a liturgical relationship with Vogue, and the movie is slightly redeemed as a result.
