Beat Mid-Week Blues with Videos of Poonam and Priyanka, Boston’s Popping-Locking Twins

By Sharanya Gopinathan

Everyone loves twins. If that isn’t a reason enough to just watch them, let me tell you that these particular Indian-American twins, Poonam and Priyanka, pop, lock and tadhing-gina-thom in perfect synchronicity to funky hip-hop or Bollywood fusion music.

Poonam and Priyanka are 25 year old fraternal but still identical-seeming twins from Boston who have been learning Bharatnatyam since the age of eight. They went to Los Angeles four years ago to study hip-hop choreography from some of the best in the business, and you may even remember them from their time starring on season 9 of Jhalak Dikhhla Ja.

Poonam and Priyanka say that they’re the first in their family of generally overachieving doctors, lawyers and businessmen to spend their time doing something creative, and thank god, because their choreography videos are mesmerising to watch. Their Bfusion (which stands for Bollywood fusion or Bharatnatyan fusion, depending on the video) dance choreographies incorporate different elements of Bollywood dancing, popping, locking, hip-hop, contemporary dance and Bharatnatyam so seamlessly that you forget that this isn’t actually a real genre.

The Kewpie-doll looking twins, who’re often unsurprisingly mistaken for being 17, also dabble in fashion, which you can see in one of their videos where they model ‘Rani on Rent’ looks to some mellow Punjabi hip-hop.

In case you were wondering, Poonam is older by five minutes, and Priyanka is more outgoing. Watch more of their work here.
