Got a Cool Idea For an Art Project? Apply to Gender Bender!

Are you ready for Gender Bender? Because the deadline to apply is almost here!

Do you have a cool idea floating in your head that the world needs to see? A dance? A play? A graphic novel? A movie? Well, it’s time to get down to it and start work. Because our friends over at the Sandbox Collective, jointly with the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, have conceived, conceptualised and are curating the fourth iteration of Gender Bender.

Gender Bender is India’s first festival that showcases new works of art focused on gender as a concept, discourse, construct and as art. This is the festival’s fourth year and from just a showcase, it has become a space for conversations around gender.

Gender Bender is an arts project that invites artists and others working in the field of arts to send entries for projects that take a fresh, innovated and new look at notions of gender or approach questions or issues of gender with ingenuity and imagination.

This year’s jury is Aastha Chauhan, Urvashi Butalia, Rahaab Allana, and Vikram Phukan. So if you’ve got something to showcase, fill out the application form here.

To apply:
1. Fill in the application form
2.Send relevant samples of your previous work and materials supporting it, including:
a) A short note describing the previous work,
b) A maximum of five photographs of previous work,
c) Video link of previous work (optional), and
d) A write up (not exceeding a hundred words) describing the context of your previous work, which deals with notions of gender, giving us an idea of your artistic interest and preoccupation with it.

The deadline for submissions is 5 June 2018.

All shortlisted participants will received a grant of a maximum of Rs 30,000 towards the creation of the work and the selected projects will be presented in Bangalore between 22 and 26 August 2018.
