Cut Out Your Pockets Entirely with Scissors. Why? Fashion, Apparently

Have you seen all the amazing discourse on women’s pockets? Several essays have been written on the pockets in women’s clothes, or the lack of useful ones thereof. It’s been said that “women’s access to money and ownership of property were neatly mirrored in the restricted scope of their pockets,” meaning that women didn’t have useful pockets because they were considered unnecessary for people who weren’t meant to go outside much. It’s also been said that women’s clothing didn’t have useful pockets of a normal size because it would be an easy way to sell them handbags and purses.

So interesting. Equally interesting and far more hilarious is this new trend that The Hindu has apparently discovered, which is to cut out your pockets entirely with scissors. Why? Yes. Just, because.

If you’re wondering whether this is a trend you should adopt, don’t (wonder or adopt it). The piece quotes one Mahima Mahajan, a designer from Delhi who warns, “Bulges and stretch marks could pop out of these cut-outs. Before cutting away, make sure you choose a pair of jeans that show off your best features and accentuate your toned figure.”

Yeah, no thanks sister, I like my trends body-positive, thank you very much, and not to come with dire warnings for people with stretch marks. Plus, as @udupendra points out on Twitter, this isn’t exactly a new trend:
