The Ladies Finger is Hosting the Kind of Ladies Night You’ve Always Wanted

By Sharanya Gopinathan

Aditi Mittal.

You know what I would absolutely be into if it actually lived up to its name? “Ladies’ Night.”

So begins Lindy West’s hilarious piece in Jezebel titled ‘Ladies Night Is a Scam’. In it, she discusses how the conventional ladies night is a veritable cess pool of irritation, and that the way most bars, clubs, and restaurants do it, it feels more a euphemism for (take a breath for giggles) “Here’s a Bribe So You’ll Enter Our Meat Market and Serve as Bait for Sweaty Creeps with Dry Boners, We Swear This Is Not a Rape Cave, See, Don’t You Like Candles Night (No Fatties).”

It’s true. Ladies Night, as we’ve known it thus far, consistently seems to be a bid to get women into bars, ply them with discounted alcohol, and create the opportunity for men to hit on them, ask them for dances and generally get in the way of the thing women want to do most in the world: have a good time and meet other women without being bothered, distracted or threatened. Ladies Night, as far as we’ve seen it, seems less about creating a space where ladies can have fun, and more about gathering them in one place to sell them things they don’t really want (shockingly sweet, watered down, garishly pink drinks, anyone?) and throwing a few men into the mix to irritate/sexual harass women, all under the pretext of showing women a good time.

Good thing all that’s set to change. The Ladies Finger and Sandbox Collective are co-hosting the kind of ladies night you’ve always wanted: all women excellence, with a Sridevi theme 😀

On 28 April, 2018, The Ladies Finger and Sandbox Collective will be hosting Leddis Night! at The Lalit Ashok Hotel, in Bangalore. It’s going to be a Sridevi themed night of comedy, cosplay song, dance and cocktails. Picture this: an all women audience (with a lady bouncer to make sure no sneaky men sneak in). India’s leading stand up comedian Aditi Mittal’s brand new set, theatre artist Deepika Arwind’s fantastic performance of No Rest in the Kingdom, Sridevi themed dance by the amazing Aastha of Dhurii, music by DJ Prarthana, and more comedy from stand up artists Deepika Mhatre and Shrirupa Sengupta. Basically, women performing for women: the perfect place to enjoy some all-women talent and great company.
