Our Favourite Version of Shape of You Will Make Ed Sheeran Want to Become an Odissi Dancer

By Sharanya Gopinathan

Our favourite! Still from Detour Odisha Youtube

You know how Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You is endlessly catchy? Yeah, he didn’t have that much to do with that. After the Internet helpfully pointed out that the hook on Shape of You sounded exactly like girl-band TLC’s iconic 1999 hit No Scrubs, Ed Sheeran sheepishly credited the members of TLC as writers on the track. Only after, mind. Pretty annoying that a white dude thought he could get away with just copying the work of Black women without giving them any credit but hey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, you must have seen all the videos of people dancing to TLC and Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You. Even Sushmita Sen and her daughter did one, but our favourite so far has to be this Odissi version. Enjoy!
