Justice Mahesh Chandra Sharma of the Rajasthan High Court cited “all the Vedas” in his judgement ruling that the cow should be made the national animal and those who slaughter cows should be given life imprisonment. He imagined that he backed up this verdict by telling reporters that the peacock has pious qualities just like the cow: it is a Brahmachari and the peahen doesn’t have sex, but drinks the tears of the peacock to get pregnant. Obviously, #peacocktears is trending on Twitter, so here are our favourites so far.
“Peahen doesn’t need to have sex to get pregnant, it just swallows ‘tears’ of the peacock”

What does the peacock say to the peahen when he is not in the mood? “Pushpa, I hate tears” #RajasthanJudge #bramhacharipeacock

Ugh peacocks.
I always knew they’d cry during sex.— π (@pi_alize) May 31, 2017
When a peacock cries, he is actually having an orgasm.

I propose Amoeba as our national animal to scientifically satisfy Justice Sharma’s criterion for national-level greatness. #PeacockTears

A peahen needs #peacocktears like a peacock needs a bicycle. (I promise, it’s the last one. Just couldn’t resist.) pic.twitter.com/5RtlidzAP9
