According to the Times of India, the Superintendent of Police in Shahjahanpur, KB Singh, issued a “stern directive” to inspectors in the region about solving 39 pending cases of abduction of girls. Around this time, eight sub-inspectors were transferred to active police duty for inefficiency, while another 24 sub-inspectors were directed to show results in 48 hours or face the consequences.

Within 72 hours, 27 of the 39 girls were found and rescued by police. Many of the girls had been missing for at least a year, if not longer. Some of them left their homes willingly to be with their partners. However, as they were under the age of 18, they were returned to their parents and cases were filed against their partners for kidnapping or “kidnapping, abducted or inducing women to compel her marriage”.

Can you believe it though? 27 out of 39 kidnapping cases of girls solved in 72 hours. This doesn’t sound like a bunch of rescue operations, it sounds like the police knew exactly where the girls were and decided to just sit around waiting for someone to request them to go pick the girls up.

Superintendent KB Singh also said to the Times of India that the police want all the women in the state to feel protected. And all the women in the state just want the police to do their damn job.
