Priyanka Chopra is Producing an American Sitcom Based on Madhuri Dixit’s Life. What Could Go Wrong?

Sometimes you read headlines with a combination of words you’d never expect to see together, but once you see it, you realise you’ve been needing this for a long, long time.

Variety has reported that the American television channel ABC (home of shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family and The Bachelor) is developing a new comedy series based on the real life of Madhuri Dixit. Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit and her husband Dr Sriram Nene will all be executive producers on the show.

The series will be a single-camera sitcom, like Modern Family and The Mindy Project, and will follow how Madhuri settles down in suburban USA after life as a leading Bollywood actor with her “bi-cultural family and tries to bring her colorful lifestyle to an otherwise dull town”. The show is still unnamed.

Whatever it’s called though, I think it’s going to be awesome. Because really, what could go wrong? The premise of the show also sounds a lot more exciting than the story of Quantico (which features Priyanka Chopra as a government intelligence worker switching agencies every three months), and it feels like there’s a lot more potential for warmth and funnies here too. We just hope the threat that the lead character will bring her “colourful lifestyle” to a dull American town doesn’t slide into boring stereotypes about Bollywood and Indian folks in the United States.

Of course, this must have been hat Madhuri Dixit was hinting at when she posted this mysterious tweet on the 23rd of June.

Loving downtime in the US. Back up soon with announcements. Til then enjoy! pic.twitter.com/MEyc9rNAF7
