We love this video! In Shit People Say @ Sarojini, Mallika Dua (a copywriter at the ad agency Contract) plays several familiar kinds of women shoppers in Sarojini Nagar, Delhi to perfect, stomach-patting satisfaction. We hear that Dua also wrote the hilarious script for the video (made by flourishing city listings site Little Black Book with their video partner A Little Anarky studio).
Dua somehow combines affection and a hee-hee sharpness for all her various shopping avatars. Our favourite might be the Wes Anderson avatar, but it’s hard to pick. To wildly misquote Sandeep Chowta, Mallika, we love you.
Without raining on this happiness parade with a moral tale, can we also add that it’s so great to see Indian comedy that is not making fun of auto drivers, cab drivers or people who can’t speak English. Please yaar, bas karo. There’s all the rest of us to be made fun of, aloft and floating in a pretension balloon waiting for a nice, sharp pin.
