Layers of corruption and bureaucracy has silenced many an honest officer. But it will take more than Sasikala and her cronies to silence Deputy Inspector General – Prisons (DIG) D Roopa. On Thursday, in a report, Roopa stated that AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala had allegedly bribed senior prison officers including Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarana Rao to set up a private kitchen in the Parappana Agrahara central jail where she’s currently serving a four year sentence. According to the report, Sasikala enjoys a special menu of meals and other privileges, all of which is blatantly against prison rules.
Roopa has since been under fire by senior officers, including Rao and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as they believe she released the report to the media before submitting it for internal enquiry. Roopa, however, completely denies the allegation and insists that she never broke any rules. An inquiry into the matter has been order by Siddaramaiah.
But throughout the pressure, Roopa has shown courage under fire. She says that she is willing to co-operate with the probe all the way, but insists that it be thorough and fair.
Watch her stand her ground with confidence in this video posted by The Economic Times:

This isn’t the first time that Roopa has spoken out against corruption or discrepancies in police practices. Earlier this year, she had lashed out against Mysuru Kodagu MP Pratap Simha for transferring four senior IPS officers on central deputation in March this year.
Roopa holds a post-graduate degree in science and passed her IPS from Davanagere in Karnataka. According to an article, her long list of being a total badass include arresting Uma Bharti, the then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in a rioting case as a Superintendent of Police, withdrawing police personnel unauthorized to be attendants of VVIPs and politicias as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru and withdrawing non-permitted police vehicles from the cavalcade of former CM BS Yediyurappa as DCP City Army Reserve.
We are in awe of her outspokenness and need the likes of D Roopa to stand up the various Sasikalas of life on all levels of state.
