The blessed folks at thatspersonal.com, which claims to be India’s first online adult store that delivers to over 1100 towns and cities in India, just released the 2017 edition of their study of trends and usage patterns of sex toys in India. The study analysed data collected from 80,000 orders, and reveals some pretty interesting things. Like that 62 percent of buyers of sex toys are men, while 38 percent are women, except in Baroda, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram, where women make up a higher percentage of buyers than men.

It also reveals that Maharashtra buys the highest number of sex toys, followed by Karnataka and West Bengal. For most of the year, Gujarat is sixth on the list, except during Navratri, when sex toy sales in the state rise, taking them to a festive and temporary third place. Mangalore has the highest average order size of Rs 3612.

Pan-India, nurse’s outfits are the most popular role play costume. Telangana bought the maximum number of men’s thongs, while Uttar Pradesh purchased the maximum number of penis enlargement products (*sigh*). The women of Punjab are responsible for the highest sales of women’s sex toys, while Assam purchased the highest number of kinky and BDSM products.

Their study also reveals some pretty weirdly interesting and hilarious facts about the way men and women use the website. Both men and women tend to make the maximum number of purchases between 10 PM and 1 AM, which sounds about right. On average, men tally up 26 percent higher page views, but women have an 18 percent larger basket size, meaning that men look around on the site for much longer than women, and women buy much more. Amusingly, the category men look at the most is “delay sprays”, which postpone ejaculation, but what they end up buying the most is lubricant, while women, on the other hand, check out and purchase intimate massagers more than any other category. You tell me what you think that means…

Somewhere in the study is also the depressing factoid that India’s top most searched keyword is…“sex”. Imaginative!
