Sharad Yadav Gave Me Deja Vu

By Nisha Susan

Tantra had a wonderful t-shirt that said “Deja Moo: The Feeling That You’ve Met This Cow Before.” Great t-shirt. But that wasn’t what I wanted to tell you guys.

So Sharad Yadav. When I heard about his spoken word tribute to south Indian women in Parliament and then some manner of I-see-you-baby to MP Smriti Irani, I wasn’t reminded of so many uncles, as I usually am. Instead I thought of this dude from this old Tamizh movie Rhythm.

The film is set in Mumbai. The premise is that the hero (played by Arjun) is a journalist, has just moved to the city from Chennai and speaks very little Hindi. The heroine (played by Meena) works in the bank extension counter of a college (damn specific, yes) and is a long-time Bombay girl. She is not thrilled by Arjun attempting me-Tamizh-you-Tamizh bonding at the bank and snubs him. They bump into each other a couple of times while waiting for trains. And then one day, a small boy snatches her purse at the station. Arjun offers to accompany her to the police station to register a complaint.

All set? Now please watch the cop in the videos below and tell me if you don’t get a feeling of deja moo.
