‘Why Can’t Women Live in Peace in this Country?’ Same Feelings, Supreme Court. Same Feelings

The Supreme Court was hearing an awful case about a man who was sentenced to seven years in jail after he caused a 16 year old girl to commit suicide due to his incessant “teasing” (read: harassment).

He was earlier acquitted in a case of rape and kidnapping of the girl. Due to his persistent threatening and harassment, the 16 year old set herself on fire in 2008 when her parents weren’t at home, and later died in the hospital. In her dying declaration (which the defence disputed, saying that as 80% of her body, including both her hands, were burnt, she couldn’t have made a dying declaration), she implicated the man in her suicide.

In the course of hearing this case, the Supreme Court made a statement that revealed that it’s getting as fed up as the rest of us with the kind of shit that goes down with women every day, particularly in cases where men just can’t take for an answer. While holding off on delivering a verdict in the case, the Court said what all of us feel every day, “Why can’t women live in peace in this country?”

We feel ya, bro.
