Free TLF Workshop: How To Write Past our Gender Biases

Getting past our gender biases can make us better writers, better reporters and have more fun.

Even the best of us journalists, bloggers, academics, etc — often without meaning to — end up using gendered language in our writing. So, does this bias stop us from getting to the best ideas? Does our perspective skew our narratives and edits? How do we write about gender violence? How do we write about pleasure?

The Ladies Finger editors Nisha Susan and Gaurav Jain will be conducting a workshop for writers and journalists with the help of the awesome Hacks/Hackers Mumbai, the Mumbai Press Club, the International Center for Journalists and Breakthrough. They will use a series of well-tested exercises, reading materials and stimuli to help us write and explore our creativity through the day, with careful and limited interventions, ideas and feedback as needed. You can expect sessions on what perspective does to our reporting, writing about violence and pleasure, and editing and packaging stories keeping gender in mind.

The event is free, but since there are limited seats, you must register for the event here, and please RSVP on Facebook!

Date: Saturday, 20th August
Time: 10 am
Venue: Mumbai Press Club
