You’ve heard that joke right? A male feminist walks into a bar because it was set so low. Here’s another such hero.
You might have seen people on your social media feed lauding a man today for taking to Instagram to express his appreciation for his wife’s curves. He talks about how he was teased as a child for his attraction to curvy women, and says feminism taught him how thin women are set up to be the standard of beauty.
His post has gone viral online and liked and shared by thousands of people and news houses, with people exclaiming over what a great guy he is. For nothing, really, than liking a woman who isn’t thin.
The annoyance comes from the feeling you get when your cause is co-opted, and why appropriation can be so uniquely frustrating: men get praised and go viral for doing things that women get slammed and ridiculed for doing.
