Wanna Know Your Vagina a Little Better? Introducing an Exciting Vagina Camera App

By Shreyashi Sanyal

Vaginas are mysterious. Vaginas are elusive. So mysterious and elusive apparently that many women can’t locate the vagina on a diagram of a reproductive system. Many women don’t even come into contact with their vaginas unless they are experiencing some form of pain, many haven’t even taken a closer look at it.

Every woman needs to know about their vaginas like they need to know about their legs and arms and nose. Isn’t a mirror and a few clicks on Google enough? Well that’s not what the developers of Labella claim, their aim is to educate women about their privates in a more interactive way and they do so by involving humor and a little bit of creative design.

In a recent interview with Mic, one of the developers Teresa Almeida explains that the goal is to eradicate the stigma attached to the female genitals and everything around it. The app comes with its own bikini briefs that have a small camera which uses 3D imagery to guide you across the region. The idea behind the app is to break the shame attached to the female anatomy. Labella has the potential to combat STDs, infections and teach pelvic floor exercises. It reminds us of 70s consciousness-raising meetings when women reportedly met in groups (with handy hand mirrors) to check out their own vaginas.

In honour of ye old feminists and ye new ones some gif love.
