What’s Going Down at the T20 World Cup?

By Deepika Sarma

Listen up, everyone! The ICC World Twenty20 2016 is being hosted for in India this year, and our gimlet eye is fixed on the women’s world cup, which begins on March 15 in Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore and ends in a showdown on April 3 in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Oh yeah!

Ten teams will be playing: in Group A, there’s Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa. In Group B, there’s India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, England and West Indies. This year, there’ll be 23 matches, played across the country at 10 venues. Thirteen of them will be broadcast on television.

It’s the fifth time the Women’s World T20 cup is being held: England won the first one, held at home, while Australia won the next three. Which leaves several exciting questions. Who will win this year? Australia, making it their fourth consecutive cup? India? They’ve been doing so well lately that it seems a real possibility. New Zealand, who have been in the running before? Someone new entirely? It’s all thrilling stuff, and it’s finally here!

Below is the schedule of matches for the cup. Matches that will be broadcast on television (on Doordarshan and STAR Sports) are shaded in pink. But what’s better than watching the matches in person and cheering on your favourite players? To buy match tickets, head here.
