We all heard them, didn’t we? It was almost as if makers-of-What’s-App-jokes were waiting for Modi to express his mann ki baat over currency and the banning of notes so they could unleash all those jokes on all of us, coloured with ugly and glaring sexism, communalism and everything else that really needs banning in this country. There was a lot of humour directed at women especially, at all the panic attacks they were supposedly experiencing over the unearthing of all the “black money” they had apparently hidden in nooks and crannies, a secret they had kept from their – OMG! – men, as well! Evil evil ladies.
Khabar Lahariya went vox-popping women across Bundelkhand, across the socio-economic spectrum to ask them about their savings and “kala dhan”. From homemakers to lawyers, here’s what they had to say about the colour of money.
