What a nice time to be alive 🙂 It feels like every day now, more and more of our favourite books are being turned into endlessly addictive mini-series. Early this year, we were excited about the trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale. Over the last month, we’ve also talked about Riverdale, the new feminist remake of the Archie comics and Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend being made into a miniseries.
And now, Netflix is making a mini-series out of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, which is will simply be called Anne. The trailer’s just released, and it’s all kinds of perfect. It’s also clearly meant for children, which is fine by us, but we did notice that Anne is played by Moira Walley-Beckett from Breaking Bad, which is definitely not for kids.
The trailer covers all the important parts of the book, including how mean everyone is to her when she’s new in town, her insistence on her name being spelled with an ‘E’ at the end, and of course, her smacking Gilbert Blythe over the head with a slate when he makes fun of her red hair by calling her Carrots.
I keep finding myself unable to objectively decide if the TV adaptions are actually any good or not because of how much I like the books and how weirdly satisfying it is to see them like this. Unlike movie adaptations, TV versions of books seem to spend more time on developing plot lines and details, and I’m somehow finding the whole thing quite enjoyable.
