Guess What? Andhra Broke a Nine-Year Jinx and Won the U-19 Cricket Championships!

Cricket fans, you’ll love this: the finals of the national under-19 Women’s Cricket took place earlier this week, and Andhra Pradesh emerged winners!

Twenty-six teams battled for the ten prime spots in the Super League, which began on October 5. Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala, which played in Group A, and Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, which played in Group B, fought for the title, with Andhra playing UP in the finals on October 19.

In the nine years since the tournament was set up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it’s the first time that a team from south India has won.

The lead scorer this tournament was Deepthi Sharma of UP, who made 499 runs in 10 matches. Andhra’s K Dhatri took the most wickets: 25 in 11 matches.
