For all women caught between the work-life balance (can women have it all? can’t they? can working women cook? but what about the kids? but what about the husband? who will cook food?), we think we’ve found a superhero.
Meet Ms Yeah, a vlogger from China who cooks using office equipment.
She felt the urge to make cooking videos in her office, she told Quartz, because she’s a big foodie but finds most cooking videos very boring. For starters, she can make you steam buns using a garment steamer, and make some noodle soup using a water dispenser. For a main course, she can show you meat cooked on an iron, or on a tile.
And to top it off, for dessert, she can use a drill to make cotton candy, hair-products (and a keyboard) to make waffles and crepes, and a fire extinguisher to make ice-cream.
Her videos are fun and quirky, it’s nice to see that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. In fact, she’s perfectly comfortable dismantling office equipment in the office, because nobody seems to really care or even notice her, in most of her videos. In her videos she can literally stand up on a desk to dismantle a lamp, or take apart her entire CPU, and nobody seems to bat an eye. We wonder how she gets any work done, in the office. But really, her food wizardry is what we’re more interested in.
Not all her recipes are so easy to pull off, and most of them are easier-said-than-done, but some tips definitely come handy in real life. Your college hostel probably doesn’t have a cooker and a stove, for example, but you can still make popcorn if you have a spare pepsi can and a bunsen burner. Her trick of using a drill and exhaust fan to cut vegetables is borderline genius. You can bake a cake, but can you do it in your desk drawer? No? Thought so. In fact, if you’re running out of beauty products but have some food lying around, she can even show you how to do your makeup.
Now that summer’s over and you’re returning to your hostels, PGs and offices, Ms Yeah might just turn out to be your new best friend.
