While the cricket fraternity was preoccupied with Yuvraj Singh’s recent marriage to Hazel Keech, the Indian women’s cricket team won the Women’s Asia Cup for the sixth time in a row yesterday, beating Pakistan in the final held in Bangkok. Thailand also became the first country to live telecast a game of the Women’s Asia Cup, giving us the chance to cheer the team to victory.

34-year old Mithali Raj, who was removed as T20 captain before the start of the league and replaced by the younger Harmanpreet Kaur, took the team to victory with an unbeatable 73 runs. Raj was instrumental in leading the team to the cup by amassing 220 runs in 4 innings, making her the top run scorer of the match. The 73 she scored during the final was her highest score in the entire tournament and she smashed seven fours and a six! India finished with 121 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs.

The bowlers gave a stunning performance as well, limiting Pakistan to 104 with the fall of six wickets, thereby guaranteeing the women in blue a 17 run victory. Another star on the pitch, Ekta Bisht, took 2 wickets in the 4 overs she bowled.

We congratulate our women in blue and hope they continue to do us proud on the field.  Time to move over Yuvraj’s star studded wedding to these women.
