So we’ve been psyched all day after seeing this hilarious tweet this morning:
“Fantasy above life. Contanious sex scenes. Audio pornography.”
Get #LadyOriented with the new trailer for #LipstickUnderMyBurkha today! pic.twitter.com/3KjCGckJ4U— 💄 Under My Burkha (@LipstickMovie) June 27, 2017
And now, after all the attempted bans, accusations and ridiculous statements from the CBFC, the new trailer is finally here, and it’s just as delicious and satisfying as we’d hoped.
You know how they say bad press is better than no press? Well it’s true in this case. The trailer begins with screenshots of the headlines that Lipstick Under My Burkha made in newspapers right after CBFC tried to shut it down but ended up putting them in the spotlight of conversations about feminism and censorship. They include bold phrases from the director like ‘Feminism makes censor board uncomfortable’ and ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha is the Much-Needed Conversation India Refused to Have’.
The trailer shows the stunning Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak who, along with actors Aahana Kumara and Plabita Borthakur, will no doubt make short work of dudes in the film who try to tell the women to remember that they’re wives and to stay away from dirty books and clothes.
In fact, one of the ‘contagious’ sex scenes that scared the pants off the CBFC shows a couple being interrupted in the middle of sex, and the woman slaying as she says: ‘Want me to marry against my wishes? Deal with it’. It also asks some big questions, like “Humaare azadi se aap itna darte kyun hai?” (Why are you so scared of our freedom?) and CBFC could spend the next decade trying to think of its answers.
The film looks like it’s everything it has promised to be, and we honestly can’t wait now. Less than a month, you guys.
