An Instagram Artist is Reclaiming Negative Labels While Flipping Off the Patriarchy

Pranjali Dubey (@kalmuhi) is an illustrator from Ahmedabad, who’s clearly made it her business to reclaim negative labels and smash the patriarchy. Her Instagram page, @kalmuhi, is a sight for sore eyes.

if you’re happy and you know it spread them wide wide enough so it can have a voice of its own and it can opine loud and clear for the world of dicks to hear, girl.

In an interview with The Quint, Dubey describes a “kalmuhi” as a woman who breaks the rules and goes against society’s norms, moving away from the negative associations with the word, or perhaps, embracing them in a powerful way. Dubey says that @kalmuhi is a “space for norm-breaking women to discuss taboo topics”. The page touches on a lot of serious issues, from the Supreme Court’s recent right to privacy ruling that trashed the judgement that kept section 377 on the books, to body image, menstrual taboos and sexual freedom.

She also riffs on things happening in the news, like this image from early June, around the time a Rajasthan High Court judges set off the “peacock tears” and “peacock sex” debacle.

Many of the images are accompanied by long captions and poetry. And they’re all pretty damn badass.

i was walking on the road with red lipstick on and they looked. i was walking on the road with a skirt ending just above my knee and they looked. i was walking with a top with a plunging neckline and they looked. i was walking with a bra on with its strap slightly off and they looked. i was walking with my cleavage showing and they looked. i was walking on the road with no lipstick on and they looked. i was walking on the road with a skirt ending right at the ankle and they looked. i was walking with a top with a turtle neckline and they looked. i was walking with a bra on with its strap properly tucked in place and they looked. i was walking with a dupatta over my cleavage and they looked. i was walking and they just looked. no amount of staring back or asking what the fuck do they want helps because they got eyes. and the perverted mind needs what it needs. its sad that at this point we’re desensitized to the gaze and we know no better way than to just ignore it. if only gouging the eyeballs out was a fair act of justice.

all the jaw drops are directly proportional and uncannily synced with my legs spreading wide. oh i’m sorry me not covering my vajayjay with my legs while sitting and my freedom intimidates you. let me make it clear, again. i don’t give a single fuck. #idgaf #sitproperly #whorehouse #slutlife #iwillsitthewayiwant #fuckoff
