We’re almost getting used to allegations against women who speak up. Remember when Kangana was accused of performing black magic? Or the two Mumbai girls who were arrested for questioning the bandh for Bal Thackeray’s funeral? This time, it’s RJ Malishka.

Apparently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation can’t take criticism. Or a song. When Malishka released a song via Red FM, about Mumbai monsoons, potholes, and the BMC’s inefficiency, two Yuva Sena leaders — Samadhan Sarvankar and Amey Ghole, urged the BMC to file a Rs. 500 crore defamation case against Red FM. Samadhan Sarvankar said, “The song did not name the Shiv Sena directly, but it hurts us that Mumbai’s and the BMC’s image is unnecessarily taking a hit. The two main highways of Mumbai don’t come under the BMC and it is not responsible for Mumbai’s traffic or the functioning of its railways.”

As what can only be termed as hilarious revenge, the Shiv Sena then created their own version of the song. Stop the “badbad” (nonsensical chitchat), and “say at least something nice about Mumbai’s BMC,” the response says, in translation.

We’re all for this mutual exchange in music, really, but the BMC seems to have come up with more shots. They’ve issued Malishka a notice, under section 381 B of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act for “mosquito-breeding” at her Bandra home. And the notice is remarkably precise and coincidental. Apparently, in one of their “routine surveys”, they found mosquito-breeding in a clay bowl under a pot outside her door. Mosquitoes were also found in plant pots, indoors.

I mean, it just seems odd that a video criticising them became popular, and soon after, they conducted a check, and immediately found that her home has been breeding mosquitoes in a clay bowl. Instead of taking criticism in a positive light and looking at how the potholes can be fixed, the BMC thought it’d be best to react in a childish manner. Apparently, the officials claim that they didn’t know the house belonged to her mother. Yeah right.
