Why do some women identify as lesbian or bisexual?
Menelaos Apostolou, a “researcher” from Cyprus at the University of Nicosia, has the answer. After conducting a study with 1509 heterosexual participants (our alarm bells have already started going off, number of lesbians surveyed = 0), he has come to the most “scientific” conclusion of all possible scientific conclusions — that men’s desire resulted in women turning bisexual or lesbian. No, really truly.
So these are the conclusions based on his study. International Business Times has reported that Apostolou has claimed that “15 percent of heterosexual men in long-term relationships say that they would want their partner to have a sexual encounter with another woman. This figure goes up to about 30 percent of men in short-term relationships.” So why does this mean that his gender helped “create” (the same term we hear again and again when people are talking about anybody belonging to the LGBT community) women who are attracted to other women? Nobody knows. Apostolou is probably saying, ‘Arre, what does it matter, this is just an extrapolation.” A very big one. Plus who cares if it’s a heterosexual male understanding of women’s sexuality, na?
Anyway, it didn’t stop there, we should also add the reason the researchers provided for why men are attracted to women who are attracted to other women. Basically, they said, with flawless logic, that, “A woman, driven by her sexual desires, may seek sexual contact outside of her long-term intimate relationship [with a man]. When this woman has sex with another woman she does not have sex with another man which translates into same-sex contact reducing the risk of cuckoldry.” Baap re, ‘translates into’, it seems.
You have to be so heterosexual to come up with all this, men like it so women do it ideas. Anyway, now Apostolou is also saying more studies need to be done. Obviously it needs to go in a different direction.
